BOOTS2ROOTS: A Horticultural Peer Support Group

April 10 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

The BOOTS2ROOTS Project at CFVF United is dedicated to empowering disabled women veterans by enhancing their skills and capabilities. As part of this initiative, we are excited to announce our 3rd annual group for the 3-session gardening training program. This group will take place on April 10, 17, and 24 of 2024. We conduct this program once a year annually to provide disabled women veterans with the knowledge and abilities to cultivate their own produce.

Access to nutritious and affordable food remains a significant challenge in many communities across the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, approximately 11.5 million individuals in the U.S. reside in low-income areas that are more than 1 mile away from a supermarket offering fresh produce at reasonable prices (U.S. Department of Agriculture, 2009). These underserved urban areas, known as “food deserts,” disproportionately impact residents of rural, low-income, and minority communities (Larson, Story, & Nelson, 2009).

Please note that the 3-session gardening training group is exclusively available to registered attendees. If you are interested in participating in this program and gaining valuable gardening skills, we welcome you to register by completing the online form

If you would like to donate or sponsor any part of this group, please contact us. Your support will help us continue our mission of addressing food insecurity and promoting self-sufficiency among disabled women veterans through the BOOTS2ROOTS Project.

Join us in making a positive impact on our communities and empowering individuals to grow their own food sustainably.
